Northbrook Rotary believes that Rotary
International is just that - Rotary International
As one of the four avenues of service, the Rotary
Club of Northbrook has a long and strong history of both initiating projects in
partnership with Rotary Clubs around the world as well as joining with other US
Rotary clubs to jointly support international service activities.
For Rotary year 2007-2008, here is how we spent
our budget:

projects:

Pending projects include:
- WHIA-RAD - $1000 for Digital
X-Ray Project (in conjunction with other clubs in District 6440)
- St. Martha & Mary
Orphanage in Jalapa, Guatemala - major project for the year involving matching
grants to construct and equip a chicken coop, vegetable garden, and sewing
workshop so that the orphanage can be more self-supporting.
Previous projects include
- Misioneros Del Camino - Sumpango Guatemala -
equipment for new neurological clinic.
- Fundaniņas Girls
Shelter - Guatemala City Guatemala - computers for educational use.
- Africa Malaria Mosquito Netting Project
- Humanitarian Relief for the Kibera slum in
Nairobi, Kenya
- Helping purchase land and equipping a women's
school in Thailand by sending sewing machines so the women could learn a
self-supporting trade.
- Donating pre-owned computers to a school in
Argentina.
- Donating pre-owned computers to an elementary
school in Bosnia.
- Jointly donating hundreds of mattresses to
orphanages in Moldava.
- Supported projects in Peru to help small
businesses obtain tools of production.

- Supported LAMP in providing antibiotics and
antifungal medicines for their work in Guatemala.
- Organized and financed a program to provide
used textbooks and reading materials for the Bahamas, Jamaica, and Africa.
- Purchasing a Shelter Box (
http://www.shelterbox.org/ ) as part of an international program to
provide on-the-spot humanitarian relief in response to disasters.
The scope of Northbrook Rotary's international
service includes Ambassadorial and Peace Scholarships as well as
Youth Exchange programs.
- Northbrook Rotary sponsored Matthew Bright, a
Rotary Peace Fellow at the University of Brisbane.
- Northbrook Rotary sponsored Jay Koh, an
Ambassadorial Scholar at Oxford University.
Northbrook Rotary International Service - it's
all about marshalling our resources (people, time, and financial) to make a
difference globally - and by helping others we also help ourselves.
